With the summer approaching, holidays are being booked and beachwear is being dragged out of wardrobes and ordered for a new season of sunshine.

However, for every perfectly golden tan there is someone hiding inside until their lobster-esque appearance cools off a little.

In the most serious cases, sun burn - whether from natural or artificial sources - can lead to skin cancer which is the fastest growing form of cancer and the biggest killer of girls in the 16-30 age group. If caught early enough, nearly all forms of the skin cancer are preventable but sadly most people do not get checked out soon enough.

There are many ways to help limit the chances of skin cancer developing while out in the sun. Taking precautions such as sun block will give the skin protection against harmful UV rays while using common sense and limiting the time spent in the sun will also benefit your skin's health.

If you find you have overdosed on the sun's rays there are always methods you can use to help repair the skin afterwards. After sun creams and moisturisers can help breathe life back into your skin by stimulating circulation which protects against the damaging elements of nature.

There are two types of product that are useful in this situation - day cream and night cream. Although it might be tempting to use them interchangeably, the difference between the ways the two work is notable.

Because your face is at rest at night - and with no makeup to interfere with the solution - night cream is produced to launch a major initiative on the effects of ageing skin. Normally full of rich oils and anti-oxidants, night creams help battle wrinkles while you sleep. Day creams, on the other hand, are designed to complement makeup, meaning that the moisturising ingredients are kept in the surface by means of a seal that allows other cosmetics to be place over the top without interfering with their youth-giving properties.
